CMFL Championship- Calgary Gators Lose Heart-Breaker to GTA All Stars 39-38

The Calgary Gators can hold their heads high for the effort, but unfortunately come home empty handed after a 39-38 heartbreaking loss to the GTA All Stars in the CMFL Championship Game at Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton

The AFL’s Calgary Gators went into Saturday’s CMFL Championship against the NFC’s GTA All Stars as slight underdogs, however any thoughts of an All Stars blowout were quickly erased by Calgary’s high powered offence as the Gators jumped out to a 24-6 lead after the 1st quarter.

The 2nd quarter saw the Gators hit another 7 points, however the All Stars responded with 15 of their own giving Calgary a 31-21 lead at the half. The All Stars outscored the Gators in the 3rd quarter by a 12-7 margin, but Calgary took a 38-33 lead into the 4th.

A back and forth 4th Quarter saw the All Stars come out on top after scoring the eventual game winning TD with only 19 seconds left on the clock. When the clock hit all zeros the Gators were stopped and the GTA All Stars emerged victorious with a 39-38 victory to keep the Sid Forster Memorial Trophy out east.

The Gators Quincy Van De Cruize took home Special Teams Honours, while the GTA All Stars Jahmeek Murray and Loxley Prince were named Offensive and Defensive Players of the Game.

The Gators and the rest of the Alberta Football League can take solace that in 2016 the CMFL Final will be held in the West, meaning that the eventual winner of the AFL Title will also win the opportunity to host the CMFL Championship.
